Almost everything was perfect

This hotel is lovely and perched high above Nice with tremendous views of the city and sea. The hotel is quaint and comfortable. Our room was on the first floor on the corner with three large windows that afforded us great views and plenty of light.
I must say that the check in experience may have been the best that I have ever experienced. Philippe greeted us by name before we even gave it to him, he was expecting us. He was gracious and delightful, shaking our hands and making us feel at home immediately. He described all of the features and benefits of the hotel with a smile and in a jovial warm way. To our surprise he escorted us to the room personally and explained everything we needed to know about our room along with a bit of history and trivia about Nice. It was indeed a remarkable check in experience.
Later we met Kevin who served us drinks at the bar. He too is a great asset to the property.
Every time we met a housekeeper in the hallway they would greet us with a smile. The room was clean and serviced with detail and care each day.
Why is this review rated as a 4 and not a 5? Well, regretfully, it takes one bad apple to spoil things.
The first morning (August 4th) we went down to breakfast where trouble ensued. There was a woman working in the breakfast room that was the worst example of hospitality that I have ever encountered. She was aggressive, rude and absolutely unhelpful. As I attempted to get hot water for tea out of the machine, she began to yell from across the room and move quickly toward me. She threw her hands up in the air as if I had committed some sort of atrocity. I had tapped “Menu” on the screen of the espresso machine hoping to activate the hot water. Through some loud words from her, I learned the hot water was located in a kettle in a different location. This behavior continued when trying to be seated. She wanted us at a table that I didn’t care for. The room was almost empty of people at the moment and there was no reason I shouldn’t sit where I wanted to. The real issue here was that suddenly I felt as though I was not a guest anymore. I felt that I was the victim of an untrained unhappy individual. This is not hospitality rather an assault on it. This individual is a detriment to the hotel and every other employee who worked so hard to make our stay wonderful. Employees that are not suited for a service job should simply not be in one. This is an example of what happens when they are. She simply cannot do the job and should be removed from it.
Fortunately on the second day we arrived for breakfast and were pleased to see someone different. Anne was delightful and friendly with a smile. She took great care of us the entire time. Suddenly we felt cared for again.
On the third morning Anne was there once again to greet us and take great care of us. Regretfully, the other woman was there as well but fortunately refused to look at us. Her presence was regrettable.
This is a great hotel and can be even greater without the rude employee.
Thanks to everyone else who worked so hard to make our stay in Nice a pleasant one.

Wonderful holiday!

We loved staying at Hotel Petit Palais! The staff were so welcoming and accommodating and very keen to ensure we had an enjoyable time.
Phillippe was very knowledgable and entertained us with his stories about the local history.
The pool was a lovely added bonus because we visited in August and it was lovely to relax by the pool after a busy time sightseeing.
Thankyou.

The staff at this hotel were amazing - thoughtful, kind, and professional. I can't say enough about them and how they made my stay even better. The hotel itself is charming, clean, and well maintained, with nice touches. My room was great, a beautiful view of the city and the sea with large doors and a modern bathroom with great water pressure/temperature, etc. The pool area was quaint and a green escape. My only complaint which is not really a complaint, is how far it is from the city center if you are here without a car and looking to spend a lot of time in central Nice/by the sea. But at the same time it is set apart from the noise/crowds and the surrounding area of the hotel is very safe and residential.

For the price this is a nice hotel. The good: The service is superb. Every employee was friendly and helpful. The room was fine and clean. The shower pressure was excellent. The slight negatives: There are no ports to plug in, there is no desk to do work, the glass in the shower is very short so the bathroom gets quite wet with each shower. The location is up the hill off the beaten path. You have to be ok with that.

Overall this room gave us what we needed and was charming, a nice place to stay for one night. It is a far walk to all the Nice activities and there was no shuttle or driver. The room was sadly very dusty and the AC was not that powerful for how hot it is currently. The walls were very thin and there was a baby crying all night next door to us. It felt more like a 3 star than typical 4 star hotel.
