Historic charm and very helpful service from team at Stone Mill

We had an unexpected travel delay due to a cancelled flight, which meant we couldn’t check into our originally booked room at Stone Mill (Rodman Hall’s sister property). Despite being under no obligation, the team went above and beyond by graciously accommodating us at Rodman Hall the following day—and we’re so grateful they did!
Rodman Hall is absolutely spectacular. The renovation work is incredibly impressive, maintaining all the charm and character of its historic roots while offering every modern comfort. Our room was spacious, beautifully appointed, and the bed was one of the most comfortable we've ever slept in.
Access was easy with a secure code system, very much like an Airbnb—convenient and hassle-free. This may very well be the nicest place to stay in St. Catharines.
**Tip:** Don’t miss *Ugly Bird*, a fantastic chef-driven restaurant just a 15-minute walk (or 3-minute drive) away. Incredible food and a great vibe—perfect way to top off an already wonderful experience.
Can’t recommend Rodman Hall highly enough!

Very disappointing

I booked a room on November 25 for Sunday December 22nd as a surprise for my wife’s 60th birthday. I received a confirmation by email. I received a call on Wednesday December 18 to inform me that they had to cancel the reservation because the heat was not working and the repair was scheduled for Monday December 23rd. I expressed my disappointment, I was offered another room at their sister location The Stonemill Inn, I declined because that hotel is not as nice and not at a nice location (busy intersection). On Sunday December 22nd I noticed a post on the Rodman Hall Instagram site of a wedding showing snow covered grass but no date showing on the post so to make sure I messaged them on instagram asking if this was the wedding yesterday on Saturday December 21st. I received a reply back right away “yes, it was”. So I guess I was lied to about the heat not working . I replied back with my story about the cancellation. Never received a reply. Also the post with the wedding video was removed . Very disappointing that they lied to me, very unprofessional. See the screenshot of the Instagram conversation.

Exquisite Place...but WATCH OUT for the Venues

I would LOVE to have given this review TEN stars as Rodman Hall is an exquisite example of a local historic masterpiece of architecture which has been lovingly restored by its owners with a massive amount of research, time, meticulous craftsmanship and, needless to say, massive amounts of money.
Our Friday first experience left me absolutely speechless at the beauty and opulence of this structure built in 1863 by the Merritt family who built the first Welland Canal through the Niagara Peninsula. We, by chance, met the owner who gave us a brief tour and renovation history which just added to the wonder of this boutique hotel.
The building is solid and the doors are massively heavy which led to a wonderfully quiet sleep that night in a gargantuan bed in a palatial room. A gorgeous garden view from the room's lovely private deck and coffee and juices provided in the gracious living/common room added to the initial pleasure of our trip.
The owner told us they were hosting a neighbourhood party that night and it was civilized, sedate and ended shortly after 11 o'clock.
However, although we knew this was an "event venue" and something was happening Saturday evening, I never expected such a raucous and ignorantly inconsiderate group of people who hosted their party the next evening.
I was awakened at midnight by thumping and banging from the room above us. Upon investigation it was a group of five children all under the age of 10, ALONE AND UNATTENDED BY ANY ADULTS obviously, jumping around the bedroom furniture and onto the floor like it was a bouncing castle at Canada's Wonderland. When I finally found the adult parent at their venue she said; "....I don't care...we rented ten rooms here ....". By this time it was about 12:45 a.m.
I called the phone number given to us with our registration information but it was an answering machine. I then called THE STONE MILL INN, which is the "parent" location for Rodman Hall and complained to them.
And that ruined the whole weekend which started so well.
As a "boutique hotel" i suppose I was expecting a similar cultivated clientele that I have met at other such accommodations. But as an "event venue" some entitled people just couldn't care about others.
So I suggest you enquire about what will be occurring at Rodman if you choose to visit.

Very nice room, but very loud

I grew up in the area and went to art classes as a child when this was an art gallery. I was very excited to see how Rodman Hall had been transformed into a boutique hotel. My husband and I booked the Merritt Suite. This room is on the first floor and is the first room when you enter the hotel. It is a gigantic room with a gigantic private bathroom complete with two sinks, a shower, and a bathtub. It has a king size bed, a large dresser, and a large wardrobe for hanging clothes. It also has a desk and a small refrigerator.
In our room there was also a bottle of white wine and two bags of ice in the freezer portion of the refrigerator.
The bed was very comfortable except that there was a large space between the bed and the headboard. The pillows kept falling through that space on to the floor.
The biggest issue with the room was that there was very little privacy. Due to the nature of the hotel being an old house, and the room directly across the all being the spot where breakfast was served, it was incredibly loud starting at about 6am.
We could hear every single thing every guest said. We could hear an entire conversation about the insulation of the building. As young parents who has arranged special babysitting in order to get a night away from our children who typically awaken quite early, it was disappointing to be awoken so early on our night away. We also knew that if we could hear all the people outside our room, then that meant they could probably hear us. No privacy at all was a little unnerving.
Our television was also on when we woke up. We never turned it on during our stay, but it was on when we woke up. That was creepy.
