Excellent location, host and value for money

Fantastic location - just a short tuk tuk ride from the train station and a couple of minute walk along the cliff with stairs to the beach very close by. The guesthouse is tucked away down a cute alley and as you come out of it you are surrounded by bars and shops on either side with a gorgeous view out over the beach. We stayed in one of the bottom rooms, as we were told it was a little cooler, and found the temperature to be comfortable, especially with the decent fan. The room was clean with comfy pillows and free WiFi. Our host was lovely and welcoming. He spoke fantastic English so we chatted for a while. He was really helpful in letting us know where to eat and which ATM would provide the best rates, even offering to drive us there. On the day we left, we had a few hours before the train so he let us check out late for free and then leave our bags in his room so we didn't have to carry them around with us. A great stay in Varkala!

Great place to stay, clean rooms

Great affordable rooms, cheap price. Very clean. Very close to beach and restaurants. Helpful owner who will source whatever you need. Also arranged a houseboat for us for when we went to allepey.

Relax time in India

We stayed 3 weeks in April instead of 1 week, cause it was nice, relaxing and easy break in the middle of 4 months trip in India. In april, after season time, Varkala was very quiet. Happy land was one of my favourite places in India, because it was cozy, close to almost empty beach,good price, brightness room and we really like Pramod, happy land guy :] He is kind person.I can recommend it.

Comfy big bed and wifi!

The best place I stayed at in India - 300 rupies for a double room was an amazing prize for the standard of this hotel. Clean, very comfortable bed, hot water, seaview, wifi in the room and a very friendly hotel manager named Pramod. It is a must!
The Varkala beach was very nice with quite big waves, nice yoga lessons, good shopping and great restaurants. Very nice beach resort. I liked that I arrived at the end of the season, thus it was not overcrowded. I advice you to visit the ABBA restaurant.

Budget priced for budget travellers

Located close to the helipad carpark on north cliff. My rickshaw driver dropped me off here as I hadn't prebooked anywhere. The room was 300rupees a night. Two single beds, interestingly with Mickey Mouse adorned sheets. The shower worked, so did the fan, the WiFi sometimes. Occasional power cuts but hey it's India so you expect that. Pramod the manager was a nice guy. My stay overall was ok though I had my surf shorts stolen off the washing line outside one night. Rooms are pretty basic, porch overlooks a breeze block wall so if you want relaxing surroundings up your budget. For the price though I couldn't complain.
