Sawa Hotel Douala: a disappointing stay despite a reassuring location.

During my last trip to Douala, I stayed as usual for 6 days from May 5th to May 10th at the Sawa Hotel, an establishment where my family and I felt safe and comfortable until now. Its geographical location is reassuring, especially because it hosts some Cameroonian authorities and is close to the French Consulate, which is an important point for me as a Frenchwoman.
However, this time, I was very disappointed by the quality of the stay. Despite our reservation, my family and I had to pay for breakfast because breakfast had been canceled, which did not meet our expectations.
Furthermore, the overall condition of the hotel has significantly deteriorated. The restrooms are outdated and very unpleasant to use. The sheets did not seem to have been changed properly, and the mattresses appear extremely old, probably not replaced for many years, which caused bodily pain. The common areas are also concerning: dirty ceilings, visible cracks, lack of general maintenance.
Regarding the staff, some security agents are friendly, even though there is sometimes a sense of expectation for tips. On the other hand, some reception ladies clearly lack smiles and friendliness. They sometimes give the impression that customers are bothering them or that they have a personal problem with them, which is unfortunate in a hotel establishment.
This is a shame, as the Sawa Hotel remains a beautiful establishment due to its history, name, and strategic location. Unfortunately, today, it seems to mainly rely on its reputation. Despite a decline in comfort and cleanliness, the prices continue to rise.
I am seriously considering changing hotels for my next trip to Cameroon, as the current state of the establishment no longer justifies the rates charged.

Good hotel

From the point of view of comfort, cleanliness,, location and friendliness, there is nothing to say. One of the small things is the doors of the toilet or shower that does not close. The restaurant is really good food. The pool is very nice and always super clean.
We stayed 11 nights in this hotel which is ideally placed in a secure area.
The reception is very helpful.

Room was acceptable. Power outages and appliances ( coffee pot and hair dryer) not working are the reason for the rating.

Frankly very pleasantly surprised

I was pleasantly surprised contrary to everything said on social media.
I had to deal with a very smiling and welcoming staff.
Spacious room with magnificent sea and pool views.
I was allowed to park in the parking lot at no extra cost.
