Highly recommend!

We loved our three night stay at De Zonnehoed! Our family of 4 stayed in the detached, studio apartment which was tidy, cozy and offered plenty of privacy. We slept well in the comfy beds (2 in the living room, 2 upstairs) and Martin, the friendly owner, delivered a delicious, well presented breakfast to our door each morning...a great way to start the day! Enjoyed watching the resident chickens, sheep and cows out our window. Took several nice walks along the canal past the windmill. Easy access to the gardens at Keukenhof...a must see! Drove 10 minutes to the supermarket (Albert Heijn) in Sassenheim and used the mini fridge to store snacks/lunch food.
**Make sure you have Euros as Martin does not accept credit cards.

Nice place, strategically located, but not ready for the global warming era.

What did we like?
This B&B is located in a beautiful place in a relatively rural area, and very close to an amazing windmill landmark.
25 min of Amsterdam by car, and close driving distances from other interesting places to visit. This is what we were looking for. We enjoyed watching the animals on the way to the B&B: a large herd of pony horses, rabbits, and all sorts of birds.
The owner Martin was very attentive and very nice to talk to.
The room was spacious. With a double bed in the lower floor and 2 single beds in the upper level.
The room and bathroom were clean.
Some feedback for improvement:
The lack of Air Conditioning might be good for most of the year in Holland, but not for July, August. It was hot, so we had to leave the windows open, which brought in a bunch of mosquitoes and other flying bugs.
Breakfast was fine, although somewhat inconsistent in the time of service, and the content.
No Gluten Free Options, though. We had to bring our own bread.
Last but not least, we didn't notice that Martin doesn't accept credit cards. This resulted in a problem. We had to look for a currency exchange place. Accepting CC is a must, it is expected.

Lovely apartment, nice host, great location for Keukenhof visit

This B&B is located near Keukenhof, just 10-15 minutes drive. The apartment was very clean and had a small kitchen. The host was very welcoming. He really made us feel like staying at our own home. Breakfast was served at our apartment. He even asked the time that we would like breakfast to be served. The view was magnificent when we were there. Perfect to watch the sunset. Worth every minute of our stay!

Breakfast time

The thing I liked best about this B&B was that the host asked us what time we wanted breakfast. At other places we have stayed, the proprietor told us what time breakfast would be served. However, in this case, Martin asked us. For example, on the morning that we wanted to leave early for the cheese market in Alkmaar, he was willing to serve us breakfast at 7am. On the other mornings, when we wanted to sleep later, breakfast could be later. I appreciated his willingness to adjust to our schedule as tourists. We also loved the location because of the convenient walking and biking trails and the cool windmill nearby. Certainly not fancy but, all in all, an excellent place to stay.

HIghly recommended!

This was our second stay at De Zonnehoed and we love it! Martien is such a warm and welcoming character and very entertaining. Our room was lovely, and well equipped, overlooking the garden with an ensuite too. We had our car and bikes with us too which was no problem, and ideal as the house is right on the crossroads of two cycle paths. The situation is idyllic, just near a windmill and close to the waterway, overlooking fields, but close enough to the bulbfields and sand dunes for lovely cycle rides, and the charming little town of Lisse for coffee and shopping. It's also close to Keukenhof gardens so it was very easy to be first in the queue when they opened - highly recommended if you're visiting the wonderful gardens. The breakfasts are plentiful and varied with fresh local produce and home laid eggs and homemade bread.
Perfect!
