Good for the no-frills traveler
Nearest convenience store is a shack two kilometers down the road.
No AC hut is elevated with a cool bamboo floor but if walking across wobbly bamboo makes you nervous you may want to get the bungalow. If you get the hut, turn on the fan to keep the mosquitos away and you’ll be good.
Showers have very low water pressure. There’s a button for “heating” but there’s no hot water.
Breakfast is at 8-9, lunch at 12-2, and dinner at 7pm. No menu. You eat what Desiree makes. No food available at other times. Breakfast and lunch 250 per person. Dinner (which is a buffet) 450 per person. Nearest restaurant is 3km down the road. Once the gas in the kitchen ran out and they had to cook on the wooden oven. It didn’t delay dinner time.
There’s a bunch of alcohol. You mix your own drink with Coke or Sprite that’s in the fridge. They can give you ice if you need it.
You log your food and drinks by yourself in a notebook and settle when you check out. Cash only.
Beach is rocky but nice. No one else there. Whole place holds max 15 people.
Some small details needed fixing, which the owner took care of right away: no lightbulb on the bungalow patio, broken shower head holder. The sliding closet doors did not open unless you lifted the door so you can slide it.
Place itself is a few bungalows and the elevated no AC huts connected by short pebble paths.
No WiFi in the bungalows. You can get WiFi in the dining area, which is the main place to hang out. 800 megabytes a day to be shared by all guests. If you have a prepaid SIM card be wary of watching videos or movies as the data gets eaten up a little too quickly in the Philippines for my liking (used up 20gigs on a Globe prepaid card in less than two weeks...without watching movies or long videos).
LTE works fine at the dining area. It’s iffy in the rooms but generally works.
They will send a guy to the convenience store up the street to grab small things you may beee. But you may still want to stock up on snacks, your favorite cigarette brand, and any other sundries you may need throughout your stay.
There’s a waterfall close by but didn’t get a chance to visit.
Overall, a good place for budget travelers that prefer a quiet beach and isolation as opposed to your typical resort experience with a restaurant, cocktails, or other amenities within walking distance. I’d only recommend the owner keep up on the small repairs mentioned above and maintain it better.
I am very sorry to give this a two but if three stars is “average,” Jungle Beach is below it. For a few pesos more you can go to a nice, well maintained place where you can eat whenever you like and have real drinks, then retire to a room that won’t depress you.
The owner is a very nice guy but seems to be out of touch with what he needs to do to provide a quality stay, even by budget resort standards.
The funny thing is if you book this based on the low price, you may think you’re saving money until you realize that, with 950 a day minimum for food (250 for breakfast, 250 for lunch, 450 for dinner), you’re spending more on food than you would had you taken that extra 950 ($18.71 USD at the time of writing), gone to a better resort, and spent 150-300 on dinner from a menu where you have actual options.
That said, we did meet someone there who was on his third stay there. And, as you can see from other reviews, many love it here. It all depends what you’re looking for, so I hope this review adds some balance for other travelers and helps adjust expectations if staying here.

amazing staff and interesting animals!
the staff was very accommodating and friendly. the owner was also very understanding. we arrived late in the evening coming from el nido. the driver of the van was new, so he was unfamiliar with the location and resort. we had a bit of trouble finding the place.
my little girl enjoyed watching all the farm pets also staying at the compound, the dogs, cats, ducks, chickens and turkeys!
