Very Disappointing Experience – Incorrect Check-In Information, No Wi-Fi & No Hot Water
I’m sharing our experience so future guests, especially those arriving after hours, know what to expect.
We booked through Hotels.com and received check-in instructions directly from Beachside Inn stating that our key-box code would be the last four digits of the phone number used to make our reservation. When we arrived after driving for hours, that code did not work.
Since there is no staff on-site, I called the office and spoke with Sara. She explained that Expedia had not provided them with my phone number, so they had assigned a different code. My concern is: if Beachside Inn knew they didn’t have my phone number, why didn’t they email or message me through the booking platform with the correct code? They had already used electronic messaging to send our check-in instructions.
Even after getting the correct code, we still had difficulty finding our unit. The instructions did not explain that we needed to go through one door to reach another door where our actual unit entrance was located. Even the person helping us by phone initially didn’t realize our unit had this different configuration.
Later that evening, we encountered guests in Unit 11 having similar difficulty gaining entry after hours. This clearly wasn’t just us misunderstanding the instructions. Had we arrived after the office closed, we could potentially have been stranded outside without access to the room we had paid for.
For an Inn using contactless check-in, unit-specific instructions and photos showing the lockbox and entrance are needed.
Once inside, we discovered that the Wi-Fi did not work.
Even worse, there was absolutely no hot water.
We first attempted to shower before 10:00 p.m. The water was ice cold. Thinking perhaps the hot-water system was shared with other units and needed time to recover, we waited and continued checking until close to midnight.
We checked the shower, bathroom sink, and kitchen sink. None had hot water.
By the time we realized the water wasn’t going to warm up, the office was closed, so there was no one available to call. However, I did message Beachside Inn through the Hotels.com “Contact the Property” feature, the same type of electronic communication Beachside Inn had used to send our check-in information.
I ultimately had to take an ice-cold shower. As a cancer survivor who continues to experience physical effects from treatment, the extreme cold caused my body to tense and lock up. I don’t expect an Inn to know my medical history, but I shouldn’t need to disclose it to expect something as basic as hot water.
Most concerning, we checked again the following morning and STILL had no hot water. So this was not simply a temporary shortage that lasted a few minutes.
If the hot-water system is shared among units and there isn’t enough capacity for everyone, guests should be informed. Otherwise, there was clearly a problem with our unit’s hot-water system.
I contacted Hotels.com, explained everything, and requested a partial refund. Hotels.com contacted Beachside Inn on our behalf, but Beachside Inn declined to approve a refund and reportedly wanted me to call the property to verify the issue. I had already called regarding our access problems, and I had messaged the property about the hot water when their office was closed.
Things can go wrong at any Inn. What matters is how those problems are handled. In one stay, we dealt with an incorrect access code, confusing entry instructions, other guests experiencing similar access problems, nonworking Wi-Fi, and no hot water all night or the following morning.
Given those circumstances, I believe requesting a partial refund was reasonable. Beachside Inn declined.
If you’re considering staying here, particularly if arriving after hours, I strongly recommend confirming your access code and exact entrance location beforehand.

Insanely Dirty
CONS: Wow. I’ve never stayed at a dirtier hotel. If it wasn’t so much trouble with kids in tow we would have tried for a refund and left. There was visible caked dirt across the entire linoleum flooring. There was dust and spills in two of the side tables. There was a damp, used washcloth still hung over the shower head and we were worried about the sanitation of the beds.
Luckily I had sanitation wipes that we mopped the floors with- (attached a photo of about 1/4 that we used) we had to go through two dozen that were left caked with dirt. (We didn’t wear shoes in the room so this was all already there.) and we dusted every surface.
The fact that they didn’t remove a used washclothe makes me question if the bathroom was cleaned, so I cleaned at least the immediate surfaces and toilet seat.
There is no place to hang a single item. There’s not even a coat hook. Not a closet. Not a hutch/ drop spot.
Obviously the inn is “charming” and you expect things to not be new, but this was almost hazardous as far as a health inspection would go. The chairs are flimsy so we carefully moved them to use as a side table.
They offered a coffee maker with NO CAFFEINATED COFFEE. It’s a Kureg style maker with only decaf and tea. We brought our own, but how strange…
The WiFi didn’t work the three days were there. We had to hotspot.
It’s going to be loud and noise will travel so we put on white noise in the evening (both for ourselves and the neighbors since we have kids.)
PRO’S:
The kitchen has pots and pans and two burners so you can make a quick meal. There’s a toaster and kitchen utensils so you don’t have to bring your own.

Parking is tight but I always had a spot before the door of our room. You have decent access to the beach, it's a short walk as well as to the downtown area. A closet and/or some place to hang up clothes would be nice as well as some separation, a curtain(?), between the bathtub and sleeping area.

No hot water. No staff on site. Door open when we got there. Trash in front on door to room. I returned the key into the rusted key slot at the Beachside location then got email I was charged $150 for not returning key. When I called the person was at another location and I was told they did not look for key at location i stayed at. Next day I called to see if key was found and told it was nit. I plan to dispute the charge. Wish I could charge them for no hot water.

Curtains are not blackout so do not open bathroom door in the evening without being fully dressed or you will be on full display for the neighbors!
Room is very tight
Door is tricky to open - if you have mobility issues or hand issues this may not work for you
No room on bathroom vanity to put anything
No a/c ir central air- so no circulation all night long! You are breathing the same air all night ( I woke up with a headache)
