Never Again!
We had looked forward to our stay at the Cottages attached to Leonard's Mill. We booked Cottage 1 and our friends booked Cottage 2. First impressions from both wives were "Oh dear, do we really want to stay here?
The bathrooms were shabby with lots of water damage to the floor and surrounds. The shower curtain had seen better days. In the end, my wife refused to use the shower.
There was dust over the alarm clock by the bedside table and spider webs and a dead spider by the power-point. The $290 tariff included a meal in the restaurant and breakfast. The meal was fine and we enjoyed it. We thought breakfast might be bacon and eggs, but sadly, it was a tray of a couple of pieces of bread and two croissants with a small jar of museli etc dropped off in the room late afternoon. Our friends next door told us that there was a spider in their breakfast tray and a dead cockroach near the fridge. (They didn't touch their tray and went to Normanville next morning for their bacon and eggs.)
Still we asked, do we stay or do we just leave? We decided to stay, but in the end with two cats fighting outside our door at 6.00am, I guess that was the last straw. We left early.

Spaceous, but smelly
The bed was clean and comfortable, but there were (pubic) hairs in the shower and a very noisy fan in the bathroom. The carpet was dirty and the place smelled mouldy and musty. Kitchenette was newly renovated, and we got an extra free room, which was nice. No heating available so I got quite cold at night. It certainly needs some TLC. I won't be staying here again until they pull out those old carpets and get rid of the terrible smell.

Picturesque
We stayed at the Mill cottages over the October long weekend and was pleasantly surprised.
Cottages are in a great part of SA and are quite well equipped with heating and cooling and most things that you need for weekend away.
The price was what I call mid range and the only thing I could suggest is a continental breakfast could be included in the price could make it more attractive to those who have not Visited here before.

Disappointed
I think there is a little bit of confusion here. There seems to be the Mill Cottages which are cottages set up in a row and are upstairs and then there are the Settlers Cottages which are right next door but older stone cottages. They may be owned by the same person but are definately very different. We stayed in Cottage 5 which was one of the Stone Cottages and frankly it was below standard accommodation. I would have to agree with the "Very Disappointed" review below as we had a very similar experience. Just a pity as these old cottages are gorgeous and with a revamp could be amazing. The room was freezing cold, air conditioner didn't work, was damp and very old second hand tacky furniture. There was dust on the sink and toilet had definately not been cleaned. Lucky we only booked for one night as we went for a dinner at Leonards Mill and travelled two hours to get there. Leonards Mill was amazing and can highly recommend dining there, this made up for our awful night. Leonards Mill have their own cottages which you can book but there are only two so if you book well in advance I would recommend staying there.

Not a good start
We were disappointed when we arrived having paid in advance for our booking to be told we didn't have a booking. I understand mistakes get made but the attitude seemed to be that we should pay again and sort it out with the owner later! In the end we got a room. It was adequate but smelt musty. The location was lovely and the building itself very interesting but so much more could be done with this.
