An experience to try

Classic Japanese Onsen, spacious room with a stylish sitting area that then transforms into a bedroom with tatami mats, set up by the staff. We decided to try the typical dinner and breakfast, in traditional clothing already present in the room; we were served by a very kind waitress who, alas, did not speak English. It is difficult to find people who speak it, but even though we did not understand anything of the presentation, we savored tasty and well-presented dishes.
We then booked a private onsen on the top floor, where the "public" ones are also located, exclusively for hotel guests, with a river/mountain view.
Overall, a more than positive experience; in my opinion, it is something to do if you have never done it here.

Wonderful

Hotel two minutes from Hakone station, from the outside it doesn't give a wow effect, but we had a great time. Our room was very large, and it overlooked the river. The staff was always attentive and kind, especially those on our floor. The three onsen are each more beautiful than the last and are always available. Dinner and breakfast are served in the room and, in our opinion, were excellent. I read some comments labeling the breakfast as scandalous because there was fish and broth... it is a typical Japanese breakfast, obviously you shouldn't expect a croissant and cappuccino...

Disappointment.

This accommodation disappointed me; the beds smelled musty, and the hotel is rather unkempt otherwise. Of course, it is unusual to sleep on a futon, but I expect clean-smelling bedding. The woman who served the food could not speak any English, but she was very friendly. I would not stay here again.

Yuki-san was so helpful!
Even though she knows very little English, she still tries to give us gentle reminders about the food i.e. there's a small shell on the prawn.

What an amazing experience. After a 10 hour flight and a 3 hour train ride all I wanted was a soak in the onsen and a comfy night sleep. It delivered on that and more. It was close to the train station, easy check-in, friendly staff, and the onsen was completely empty; all to myself after all that travel. In the morning they served me a multi-course breakfast. It put American “free continental breakfast” to shame. Next time I’ll spend more than one night here.
