Amazing GEM in Minakami

Wonderful gem if you’re looking for an authentic Japanese experience with a touch of luxury. Our room had a private onsen (hot spring), however we also used their public onsen since the outdoor bath and mystical view of the mountains felt extremely relaxing. Be sure to arrive right around check-in time to take full advantage of this hidden wonder. They will keep your shoes and provide you with their own for the duration of your stay. Dinner and breakfast are private and follow strict times, which is why it’s best to adhere to their check-in time frame as Minakami is small and everything in the station area closes, making it hard to find transportation otherwise. Once in the property you won’t want to leave. Dinner was abundant, although very traditional Japanese, so if you’re not into raw fish I advise you bring something beforehand.
The bed is set up while you’re enjoying dinner, where they also bring pajamas and a bag of lavender which I put near my pillow and it smelled incredible. After a day of canyoning and letting our troubles melt away in the onsens, we slept like we had a million bucks in the bank. Thank you for a magical stay.

Quiet and good spring inn

I visited with a bunch of elementary school students who were both working and before they took their middle school entrance exams.
I have many opportunities to visit the inn of the Japan Hidden Hot Springs Association, and the water is definitely good too. For those of us in our 40s, there is a strong desire to refresh in a quieter place than money, so the age group is high and there are few inbound visitors. This one was perfect.
It was quiet and suitable for teaching both elementary and junior high school students in their rooms. Thank God.
The meal was so full that I couldn't finish it. It was perfect for our family because it wasn't too seasoned.
For some reason, the drinks at the restaurant are so cheap that I worry. On the way back, I bought a lot of souvenir omanju and left. I want to come again.

Five star stay in winter

Travel: easy commute from Tokyo taking an hour's ride on the shinkasen then a 20minute bus ride to Minakami station where a mini van brought us to the Ryokan. Communication was prompt and excellent. The bus ride comes infrequently so some planning is required.
Room: we gotten a western style room and the second floor facing the mountains. View was excellent in winter. The private bath was spacious and windows can be opened fully to appreciate the winter views.
Public bath: actually spent more time in the outdoor public bath Vs the private bath. Water temperature not as hot as the room bath but the cooling surrounding makes it very enjoyable to stay soaked for the long time. Only minor point is that the public bath is western facing and we were not able to catch the sun rise.
Food: enjoyed every single dish. Showcased fresh local produce. The beef shabu was excellent.
Great stay in winter. Thanks to all the attentive staff who made this a truly memorable stay.

Inn with a flowing hot spring water

It is a real source of water that can be drunk. It is a real kakenagashi, completely different from the usual "self-proclaimed kakenagashi." I was very hopeful because the book said that I was focusing on eating, but cooking seems to be different from before, it seems like an old story. The current head chef is from Kyushu, so it is such a dish. The food was ... for the price. Taste and content. But the quality of the springs is great enough to cover it. Also, I can't write about it because I don't want to teach it here, but for those who have certain interests, there is a great deal of fun. So I'll make sure I repeat it.

The food and the spa are amazing.

It is said to be suitable for families with children, but from my experience staying there, it may not be suitable for families with children.
There is no baby shampoo or baby bath.
Depending on the room you stay in, strollers may not be suitable as there are stairs, so a baby carrier is essential.
There are a lot of stairs.
There is only a very basic baby chair (without a belt).
There seem to be picture books, but no toys.
There are no diaper changing tables in the toilets, etc.
It is a bit strict for families with children, so it may not be a place where children are welcome.
There is a fair amount of food for infants, and the food for adults is also delicious.
However, when it is crowded, I don't know if there is a shortage of staff or if the estimated time it will take to eat is too long, but it was hectic afterwards, as it seemed like they would not be able to make the last order.
I secretly thought to myself that with that amount of food and alcohol, 2.5 hours would be too long.
The hot spring is very pleasant and wonderful.
For some reason, the bath attached to the room is a jacuzzi (the contents are natural hot springs, which is wonderful), which ruins the atmosphere, but if you open the window all the way it could be called an open-air bath.
The food and hot springs are great, but there are a number of things that are a bit disappointing.
If they are not child-friendly, I wish they would be honest and say so.
