Quiet seaside comfort close to home

We’ve been returning to Hotel Vega for years, always for a few quiet days either at the beginning of June or end of September. We prefer this time of year specifically because the hotel and the beach are much less crowded, and the atmosphere is calm and relaxed — just how we like it.
Rooms are on the smaller side, but well-organized and comfortable enough for a short stay. Breakfast is always decent, never disappointing, and the staff — from reception to beach and pool — has consistently been polite, attentive, and professional. The outdoor pool is exceptionally well maintained, and even the other guests during the off-season periods tend to be respectful and quiet, which adds to the overall peaceful vibe of the place.
We’ve never stayed here during peak summer — mostly because the prices in high season no longer justify the overall package when compared to similar options abroad, and also because we avoid crowds. Mamaia gets very busy in July and August, which isn’t really for us.
But for early June or September, Vega remains our go-to choice on the Romanian coast. The value for money is spot on during these periods, and the service quality has always met our expectations. It’s a solid, reliable hotel that we’re always happy to come back to.

Bad experience

An extremely unpleasant experience that I cannot recommend to anyone. Although Hotel Vega promotes itself as a 5-star location, the reality is completely different. The most serious issue was at breakfast, where I was served expired jam. When I noticed this and tried to take a picture of the expiration date, the head waiter aggressively intervened and literally snatched the product from my hand to hide the evidence.
​This is a huge red flag regarding their food safety protocols and the freshness of the food served here. In addition to this unacceptable incident, the rooms do not meet the size and amenity standards you would expect (and pay for) at a 5-star hotel. The staff was hostile and showed a total lack of professionalism. The value for money is simply non-existent. I strongly recommend avoiding this establishment.

5 stars are not, yet okay

Quite old building right on the beach, not too big. Room remade inside and up to date. Plant itself not spectacular, but only a few minutes to the water. There is not much in the area, but you can walk well anywhere. Breakfast ok, staff friendly.

The Vega is advertised as a five star hotel - and it's not what we would understand as five stars in the UK. The room was okay...a bit small...a bit like a Premier Inn type room. But perfectly clean. Staff very helpful and service was good. The breakfast was adequate, though not many options for vegetarians and it was the same every day, so got a little boring. It was okay, but we expected a little more.
