Dit pension wordt door een gezin beheerd en ligt op maar 50 meter van de Puerta del Sol in Madrid. De receptie is 24 uur per dag geopend. De kamers beschikken over verwarming, airconditioning en gratis WiFi.

Centrally located, clean and comfortable.
Over 50 solo female traveller here. 3 nights. Perfect location. 130mtrs to Puerta del Sol with Sol train station underground. Variety of restaurants including fast food outlets around. All sites within walking distance. I felt very safe and comfortable. Stayed in a single room, small as expected but clean. Facing the road which becomes noisy in the evenings. I sleep well so it never bothered me. If it does, ear plugs are provided in the room. Bathroom is also small. If you’re a larger person it might be a tight squeeze - again, personally, it was not an issue. Large wooden main door is closed at all times. Buzz to enter. Lift available. Hotel on 2nd floor. Building shared by other hotels. Host is kind and helpful. Non English speaking but we managed! The location and safety for me, was key.

Every year I go through Madrid and stay here because in addition to being well located, very comfortable and clean, they make you feel at home.

EXCELLENT!!
I stayed in September, the attention, the service and the unbeatable location were great. Rosa is an excellent host!!!! As I used Madrid to do star tourism (I think that's what they call it) I arrived in Madrid, I stayed for 6 days, I went to Bilbao, I came back and stayed in the hostel again (6 days), then I went to Lisbon and then to Prague, returning again to the hostel (4 days), that is, I stayed in 3 rooms, GREAT EVERYTHING! I was alone, I was in single rooms and in a double. Rosa was very attentive to satisfy my accommodation needs for comings and goings. Breakfast has a lower price if the hostel gives you a voucher for a nearby cafe, great, it's enough for me to have breakfast with what I'm used to, a delicious coffee with milk and bills or churros. What can I add, being alone I felt at home, safe, and with the great help of Rosa to guide me and answer some concerns.

No hot water for three days
This is our second time staying in Sol.
We stayed for six nights.
The staff was friendly upon check in and allowed us to check in a little early so that was a plus.
We were walked to our room, which we thought was nice.
The room was on the smaller side, but expected for the center of Madrid. The room was not modern, but clean. Which if you have to choose one over the other I think we can all agree clean is the winner.
We were all for the "do the best with what you have" mindset. But then...the hot water went out. I thought, okay we can work with this. Let's support what looks to be a family owned hotel. But after three days of having no hot water is when it became unacceptable. Hostal Esmeralda apologized at check out.
My husband and I are not out here looking for no freebies. But when you fail on delivering a service for days at a time that your patrons pay for, that is not good service. By not offering a way to make it right is not doing right by it's customers.
I was extremely disappointed. We do not recommend staying here, and we won't be coming back, sadly.

If you want a good night of sleep, go elsewhere
We booked three rooms at the hotel, and after two nights at the hotel we are so tired because of all the noise and lack of sleep. I have stayed in many hotels in the centers of big cities, but this is my worst experience yet. The insulation of the rooms is terrible, with a notably mention for the squealing water pipes when anyone left, right or above you is using water. The streets around the hotel are filled with drunk tourist all night and early in the morning there are building works and noise of trucks and workers supplying the shops under the hotel. The owner says "hey this is Madrid", but I ran away and am enjoying a quiet Airbnb in the same area now.
