First class stay
We visited in April and didn't realise that the 'season' had ended, which we found strange for the Canaries. However, we had a fantastic holiday, the hotel is in a great location, with the sea in the front and mountains at the back, both lovely views. The rooms are spotlessly clean with plentiful hot water and a powerful shower. The rooftop bar is very reasonably priced and very pleasant. The pool is warm, and it's great to be able to see and hear the sea. You can request a kettle from the bar. The sea swimming is not easily accessible but the beach by the port is fine, as is Charco del Conde at high tide. However, La Gomera is not commercialised like some of the islands, and that is its charm, very quiet and laid back.
We were here for 2 weeks and hired a car to walk in the National Park. The walks in the National Park are well signposted and easy to follow. Walk 16 was a particular favourite. A map of the walks is available from the tourist information centre near to the petrol station

Very good hotel
I stayed at the Hotel Gran Rey from 02.04. to 11.04.2026 and was very satisfied. Since I arrived very late in the evening there was even a snack waiting for me. The reception was very helpful in all matters and the rooms were cleaned daily. There was also a bike storage room where I could put my rented e-bike. My room (with sea view) was spacious, clean and well equipped. A bottle of water was available for free, but the small refrigerator (minibar) was otherwise not filled. A very nice pool area with panoramic views and a bar with excellent service complete the very good overall picture.

Clean, welcoming and great views from the roof top bar.
We had a pleasant stay in the hotel. The highlights were the roof top bar where you have breakfast (a good selection of hot and cold options including pastries, cold meats, cheese, fruit, cereal, fresh orange juice, an omelette bar, cooked breakfast), you could eat lunch (but we didn’t), or have a drink watching the sunset. The food in the evening was ok, nothing to blow you away but there was always something we could choose. Lovely location, pretty chilled out, spotlessly clean and friendly staff.

For me, the hotel is cold and uncomfortable with poor food structure
The hotel is centrally located and clean with very nice staff. The hotel seems cold to me. Holidays are a haven of well-being for me. Unfortunately, this is not the case here. There is no bar to have a drink in the evening or afternoon. Would you like to have a coffee in the afternoon or maybe have a piece of cake, far from it. There's nothing here.
We booked HP. Already for breakfast there are crowds. Where this is set up and passed are max. 6 m available on one side. You're always in line here, whether it's cold cuts or fruit. Everything is crammed into a tight space. Only rolls and cereal were on a sep. Table handed. I miss cheese for breakfast. There is no cream cheese, cut cheese usually only one type!
In the evening it goes the same way. You're always in line with a lot of waiting people because the space where the buffet is served is way too small.
Very positive is the swimming pool with the sunbeds on top of the roof. If it is not so windy you can relax there well.
Conclusion: I will not book this hotel again nor can I recommend it.

Excellent
We have just got back from our second visit to this lovely little hotel. The situation is perfect, within walking distance of numerous restaurants. The hotel is spotlessly clean, the staff efficient & friendly & the breakfast excellent. We will return again soon!
