A Place That Gives You More Than Just a Bed!
I stayed in a private room both times, and for the price, the value is genuinely hard to beat. The room was spotlessly clean, quiet, and peaceful — everything you need after a full day of exploring the chaotic, wonderful streets of Kathmandu. It never felt like I was compromising on comfort despite being in a hostel setting.
But let me be honest — the room is the least exciting part of staying here.
What makes Alobar 1000 truly special is the energy of the place and the people you meet. Within hours of checking in, I'd connected with staff, fellow travelers from across the world, swapping stories and travel tips over cocktails at the bar. Speaking of which — those cocktails are refreshingly good. The bar has a fantastic vibe, and the food at the restaurant is equally impressive, far beyond what you'd expect from a hostel right in the heart of Thamel.
The staff deserve a special mention. They're not just helpful — they're genuinely invested in making your Nepal trip unforgettable. It was staff and inmates, recommendation and guidance that led me to the Chandragiri Hills down trek — my very first trek ever in my life. I had no idea what to expect, but it turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences of my entire trip, and I owe that entirely to the special people here.
If you're visiting Kathmandu and want more than just a place to sleep — if you want stories, friendships, great food, and moments that actually stay with you — Alobar 1000 is the answer. It's not just accommodation; it's the soul of the backpacker experience in Nepal.
Would I go back? Already planning my third stay.

Best hostel in thamel?
When I arrived in was greeted with the best hospitality and service.
I was solo travelling so didnt have many people to talk to but by the time my stay was up I was friends with the staff and had made many friends in their great lil restaurant/beer garden area.
Shoutout to the staff who looked after one of my bags while I did the E.B.C trek.
Shoutout to the chefs who always made my meals so bloody delicious!
They also offer a lot of trekking advice and gear hire, with their in house trek company!
Id recommend this place to anyone staying in thamel, everyone is so lovely and ill definitely be staying again when I come back to kathmandu!

Peaceful oasis in the midst of the city
The vibe and energy of this place is great, very inviting, warm, and peaceful which I appreciated a lot.
It may me a tiny bit more expensive than some other hostels buuut I contribute that to the pool which is nice, and it is the cleanest place I’ve stayed in in Nepal, with good facilities, very comfortable beds, amazingly friendly staff and I’ve had the luck to be able to tackle along to the city tour Kish, their travel agent, did back in April. Very much a wonderful tour - he gave some insight into typical Nepali life, we did a little sightseeing and he brought us to a few nice local recommendations including a really great, hidden gem for samosas. Would absolutely recommend.
